Investigators use mobile phones to measure happiness

Investigadores usam telemóveis para medir a felicidade

In a study that involved the participation of 270 volunteers from 13 different countries who agreed to provide information about their feelings and leases, researchers at Princeton University, United States, concluded that mobile phones can efficiently capture information that is present in the day-to-day.

After having secured the stakes, the team of scientists has developed an application for the Android operating system that documented the location of each person who periodically sent the question "How happy do you feel?".

In a study that took three weeks, scientists have developed methods that can lead to a better understanding of how the environment influences our emotional well-being.

One of the most interesting parts is precisely the difference between the sexes. If, on the one hand, men tend to describe themselves as less happy when they are away from home, while women showed no particular trend with regard to emotions and distance.

The study was published in the June issue of the journal Demography.
