Commission rejects change policy to combat piracy

Passing through Lisbon, Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission, admitted that the copyrights are crucial to the development of an economy, but said that should not be taken any legislative initiative in the near future.

In a meeting with journalists, the vice-president and commissioner with the folder of the Digital Agenda assured that by the end of the term, will not proceed with any proposal with the aim of changing the current policy of copyright.

Failure to any proposal by the end of the term (in 2014), does not prevent Neelie Kroes to classify copyright as a strategic area for the digital economy, which should be the target of new legislation in the future.

"But it is worth ask when will this future. I can only guarantee that this Commission (the current term) will not present any such proposal, "assured the vice president of the European Commission to journalists.
