In China, Internet Explorer 6 continues to be a success

In the realm of Internet Explorer (IE), the latest version 10.0.9 gives the name - and has only 21 days. But in China almost a quarter of users still prefer a version of Microsoft's browser with more than 12 years.

The initiative The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown has added milestones and "wins" the abandonment of the Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) and migration to newer versions of the browser. But in China, the mission seems more complex: according to their own page that Microsoft created to illustrate the initiative, 22.2% of Chinese Internet users still use IE6.

The numbers contrast greatly with the market share that IE6 is elsewhere: in Portugal, New Zealand, Canada, France, Germany, USA, Philippines, Thailand and many other countries the share of IE6 is less than one percentage point (in some cases this barrier has been achieved for more than two years).

According to Numerama, the popularity of IE6 in China can be directly related to the market share of the other big name of the gallery's past Microsoft: Windows XP. Today, XP still has a large share of the Chinese market - and IE6 usually available in this version of the operating system as the default browser.
