Everything begins with the posting of ideas on post its, then it follows the vote and the choice of partners. After a week of training with experts, follows the company's inception. In Portugal, 12 companies have followed the process of launching the business Startup Pirates.


The Startup Pirates is a course - but it is also a contest . Because a course has lectures from experts in the management of innovation and innovative business leaders , and a contest awards prizes for the two most promising business ideas and the best idea in the area of ​​energy.


The program , which runs for the ninth edition in Portugal , has as main features intensive training ( lasts a week ) and the fact that bringing together people who do not know about business ideas that are presented in the first moments . An unnecessary risk or adventure can change a life ? Miguel Frade , a member organization of Startup Pirates of Coimbra , gives the opinion : " It is the people who choose the teams . And these teams run a business idea in common that generally was proposed by someone that team at the beginning of the course . The fact that the team did not include only the person who had the initial idea has the advantage of bringing new insights and improvements to every project . "

To avoid any shocks caused by personal relationships between entrepreneurs unknown , the workshop includes classes team building and managing teams .

The next edition of Startup Pirates , held at the Institute of Accounting and Administration of Coimbra between 5 and October 12 , will start , as usual, with the display of post-its with ideas .

After each idea is voted by the participants and consist of eight to 10 teams of four or five personal which they should most popular ideas .

"There is a focus on a particular area of ​​business. It is a program that can be interesting for technological projects as other areas of activity that need not be technological , but benefiting from the introduction of technology and innovation , 'says the head by Startup Pirates of Coimbra .

The Startup Pirates arrived in Portugal in 2011 , having covered some of the biggest Portuguese cities . Alongside the training , the mentors of this project that has several initiatives in various parts of the world are determined to create an ecosystem with experts who monitor the business throughout its evolution.

Startup Pirates The workshop is organized by a nonprofit entity , but not without a price : 130 euros for a week of training , some extracurricular activities and lunch included .

In the end, business ideas contest winners grant the right to settle momentarily on hatcheries as the Curia Tecnoparque the Inopol or EDP Starters and voucher management software , training or travel insurance .

Uniplaces Foodzai and are two of the 12 projects that have been launched by Startup Pirates in Portugal .

Miguel Frade recalls that business opportunities are not limited in the choices of the jury : " The teams without even win prizes , ensure that they leave the workshop with an idea developed enough to move to a business ."
