The Korean manufacturer currently uses one rear polycarbonate for its flagship model, the Samsung Galaxy S4.
According to some sources who spoke to ET News, Samsung Galaxy S4 can be the first device to have a metallic back. Incidentally, this may not be the only device to dispense plastic, since future smartphones can also relinquish use of the polycarbonate.
For example, the rival iPhone 5 and HTC One have metal back, which makes the device more stylish.
This is a measure that is part of a redesign in which Samsung engineers are reportedly working.
